In the Cold, Cold Ground
We decided to put in some early plants this year. Right after planting the kale, chard, spinach and sprouts we began to worry that rabbits would make a quick meal of them. Luckily we had some fencing and poles on site. Right after pounding in the last of it, we noticed a fox napping under the deck. No need to worry about rascally varmints with him around.

Sunday Snow
March madness is supposed to be about basketball, not the weather.
Yesterday we woke up to this.
It didn't last long, but it was pretty.
The sun did a good job of turning the snowy landscape into a muddy mess in no time at all.
The shady deck was the last to go and I had to give it a shoveling. In March.

Golf Lessons
It's still dark and I'm heading out to Reston, VA to get my first ever golf lesson from a pro. This is Daughter's idea of a good time.
The morning was cold but the clubhouse was warm and sunny.
The pro decided it was too cold to go out and practice our set up so we did it in the empty club house.
Getting in the right position and holding the club correctly is harder than it looks.
After the lesson, Daughter and I hit a bucket of balls out on the chilly driving range.
So far so good, but I am looking forward to the lesson on the swing.

Saint Patrick's Day Guests
We are taking care of the Grand Kitties for the weekend.
The one pictured above told me in no uncertain terms what she thought of that.
The wound got me out of the big dinner prep.
I did help set the table.
Mother Nature gave us the centerpiece.
There was soda bread with and without raisins.
The whole spread looked like this. For just the two of us.
Grilled salmon, cooked over the outdoor wood stove.
There was also corned beef and cabbage with colcannon, carrots, cabbage and kale.
The best part of St Patrick's Day this year was the weather. Almost 70 and sunny.

Deja Vu
It was a rescue mission. I went out one day to find some pretty plants struggling to push through a layer of old leaves.
Some were having an easier time of it than others.
I had to spend several days removing all the wet layers of leaves from the places I had raked them to in the fall. I won't be doing that again.
