A Big Surprise

As we were about to leave for our last golf lesson together, Daughter hands me a card.

It seems that she and her two brothers put in the money to buy me some new clubs as a retirement gift.

I was suddenly very happy that she talked me into all those golf lessons that I was very reluctant to take.

Today's lesson was to play a few holes. I would be playing for the last time with my old clubs that were a mixture of hand me downs and vintage.

Part of the surprise was to get a club fitting done by the pro.

It consisted of lots of mumbo jumbo and sticky tape but I did learn how to pick out a good club for myself.

Daughter and future Son In Law took me over to Golfdom in Tyson's Corner.

I got to try out lots of clubs in the room with all the nets.

I decided on a set of graphite Callaway clubs. I feel like I need to pinch myself.

Afterward, we had dinner at Chili's to celebrate. I still need to pinch myself.
Thanks kids!

Under Cover

We noticed some bites taken out of some of the plant leaves so we are trying something new to scare the bugs and other critters away. It's a row cover and you can get them here.

Easter Saturday

The family got together today to clean up Granddaddy's yard.

We cut down some overgrown shrubs and planted some flowers.

We also moved a lot of existing plants to new spots to make room for the new stuff.

We had help from babies....

...and big brothers.

We also found the time to dye a few eggs.

We had plenty of beer....

...and pizza and chicken.

Everyone pitched in to return the house to a halfway decent state before heading home, much to Granddaddy's relief. He needs a nap and so do most of us.

More Garden

Everything looks so nice and neat in the early spring.

In a few weeks this will be a tangle of green so I better enjoy the view while I can.

How Does Your Garden Grow?

Right now the garden is full of cool weather plants.
Broccoli.

Brussel sprouts.

Chinese cabbage.

Swiss Chard.

Kale.

And finally spinach.
Now to figure out how to make whatever is nibbling on the leaves to go away.

The Last Lesson

Here is our little group on our last morning of early morning lessons. Next week we are going to play a few holes at 5.

I really didn't want to sign up for these lessons, but I hate to admit that I have seen some improvement.

I can hit the ball farther.

I can even get it to go where I want-most of the time.

What on Earth?

We used to have a fire pit next to the picnic area but we haven't used it in years.

I decided to dig it out and make it into something even more useful.

Now all I need is a truck full of sand.

Golf Lessons Part Two

Our second lesson was much better than the first because we got to go outside.
We practiced putting.

We also worked on our swing. I saw a big improvement right away. This might have been a good idea after all.
